Ever wondered how expert ELISA support can transform your lab’s efficiency? In this Q&A with our Technical Support Manager, Andrea Horridge, we explore how Aspect Scientific helps labs optimise ELISA automation, overcome technical challenges and achieve consistently reliable results

“We work closely with the customer and kit manufacturers to understand requirements and can also help labs to validate new assays so they can be sure to achieve accurate results.”

How does Aspect Scientific’s technical support help laboratories optimise their ELISA automation systems and ensure smooth operation?

Aspect Scientific’s Technical Support staff are very highly trained on all ELISA equipment and respond quickly to enquiries / issues / faults reported by email or phone. We provide advice and troubleshooting and solve >50% of issues without the need for an Engineer. This means labs can progress with their lab testing without any further delays.

What are the key challenges labs face when implementing ELISA protocols, how does Aspect Scientific assist with protocol writing and optimisation?

We write all instrument protocols using the current manufacturer’s instructions for use, however, many labs request differences in reporting / data display so this can take time as we are essentially providing a bespoke service. We work closely with the customer when they receive results to make any changes required. Customers also ask how assays can be scheduled on the DYNEX instruments to fit the best / quickest way, so being most efficient for the lab. We can offer information and examples of how assays schedule together on each piece of equipment.

How do our ELISA application support services help customers achieve accurate, reliable and reproducible results across different assays?

All DYNEX instruments are open ELISA platforms so most ELISAs can be tailored to run on the instruments and Aspect have the experience and knowledge to carry out this programming. We work closely with the customer and kit manufacturers to understand requirements and can also help labs to validate new assays so they can be sure to achieve accurate results.

What are the main factors to consider when selecting the right ELISA test kits and automation solutions for specific laboratory needs?

Ease of use by the lab personnel e.g., ready to use kit reagents and intuitive instrument software. Minimal maintenance procedures and neat instrument footprint can also be a consideration – as well as cost. At Aspect Scientific, we can offer reconditioned instruments which can make a large saving for customers with a small budget. Some ELISA kits will be recommended by NHS white papers so ensuring all labs are carrying out the same test which can also be key. Aspect Scientific carries out comprehensive on-site user training at installation to ensure users know not only how to use the instrument but understand basis troubleshooting and maintenance procedures. Advanced user training is also available upon request.

Can you share an example where your ELISA troubleshooting and application support significantly improved a customer’s workflow or assay performance?

We have customers using a specific kit on our DYNEX DS2s where the standard is diluted but can also be very bubbly, causing issues with pipetting. We have worked with the site and contacted other sites for their input and come up with a small assay amendment. This has significantly improved how the instrument dispenses the standard so there are now considerably less errors or delays.
