ELISA Automation Specialists
Helping laboratories automate ELISA testing
ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent assay) is a plate-based technique that identifies and examines the reaction between antigens and antibodies in a sample. A heterogeneous, immunological determination of substances which has become commonplace in laboratories due to its high level of accuracy, cost effectiveness and minimal risks for the technician. The reaction between antigen and specific antibody is assayed by determination of an enzyme which is conjugated to the antigen or antibody. ELISAs may be designed as competitive or sandwich assays.
ELISAs are used for the determination of drugs, hormones and proteins and do not require the handling of radioactive substances such as with RIA tests, but with similar sensitivities. This reliability is why ELISA is the chosen method for several screening tests.
Explore ELISA Automation
The site’s DYNEX material specifically positions the systems as flexible, open platforms capable of automating assays from different manufacturers, alongside technical support and training.
Flexible
Run tests from any manufacturer. We provide full support to get the most from these open platforms.
Standardise
Automation ensures standardised, accurate and faster testing to provide better quality results and less re-runs.
Scale
Choose an automation solution that can help your laboratory manage increased workload and future growth.
These three benefit themes already appear on the site’s products page, so I would retain them and expand them rather than replace them.
ELISA Test Kits
Looking for ELISA test kits to run manually or on an automated platform?
Aspect Scientific supplies a range of ELISA products for clinical, research and veterinary applications.
Our portfolio includes assays covering infectious diseases, immunology, oncology, veterinary diagnostics and other specialist applications.
Many of the ELISA kits we supply can be fully automated using DYNEX® ELISA Automation systems available from Aspect Scientific.

What is ELISA?
ELISA stands for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. ELISA is a laboratory technique used to detect or measure substances such as antibodies, antigens and proteins. It is widely used in clinical diagnostics, infectious disease testing, research and veterinary diagnostics. ELISA is based on the specific interaction between antibodies and antigens, combined with an enzyme linked detection system that produces a measurable signal.
Modern ELISA workflows can be performed manually or automated using specialist laboratory equipment.

The History of ELISA
From early enzyme immunoassays to modern laboratory automation
The development of ELISA dates back to the early 1970s. Researchers including Eva Engvall and Peter Perlmann published early work describing enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays for quantitative measurement of immunoglobulins, while researchers in the Netherlands were independently developing enzyme immunoassay methods around the same period.
The technology subsequently developed into a widely used alternative to radioactive immunoassays and became increasingly important in clinical diagnostics, research and infectious disease testing. Advances in antibodies, microplate technology, instrumentation and laboratory automation have continued to develop ELISA over the decades.
Today, ELISA remains a widely used laboratory technique, while automated systems allow laboratories to process ELISA assays with far less manual intervention.
Manual ELISA vs Automated ELISA
Manual ELISA can be a practical option for smaller workloads, but as sample numbers increase, repetitive pipetting, washing, incubation and plate handling can consume significant amounts of technician time.
Automated ELISA systems can perform many of these repetitive processes automatically, helping laboratories improve efficiency and consistency.
The right approach depends on your workload, assay portfolio, laboratory space, staffing and testing requirements.
ELISA Automation for
High Throughput Laboratories
For laboratories processing large numbers of samples, automation can provide an opportunity to increase capacity without increasing manual workload at the same rate. DYNEX® systems are designed to automate the repetitive stages of ELISA processing and can support different assay configurations and laboratory workflows.
The appropriate system depends on sample volume, assay requirements and the level of automation required.
