This month Steve Pollitt, our Service Centre Engineer, gives us an insight into his role at Aspect Scientific.
How long have you worked at Aspect and what’s involved with your day-to-day role?
I have been with the company now for two years. In my role as Service Centre Engineer I am responsible for the workshop-based service and repair of the company’s third party and distributed range of medical diagnostic instrumentation. I also provide support when necessary to the field service team with preventative maintenance, installation and decommissioning.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the variety my role brings as no two weeks are the same. Some days I’m in the workshop refurbishing and repairing equipment, others I’m out supporting the field service team with preventative maintenance visits or delivery and installations at the customers site. It’s also really good to be working alongside such a brilliant team of people every day learning something new.
What do you find most challenging?
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic it has been a challenging year for us, as it has for most businesses. During the lock down period, as key workers, we’ve had to remain positive and adapt to working within new government guidelines to keep ourselves, colleagues and customers safe, whilst still being able to support them with any technical issues that may arise. Also locating a parking space at busy Hospital sites canbe very difficult at times, especially when I’m in the company van.
Do you feel the company’s services/products and your role have a positive impact on healthcare, why and how does this make you feel?
I’m extremely proud to be working for a company whose services and products have had such a positive impact within the healthcare sector, especially during the COVID 19 pandemic where demand for medical diagnostic instrumentation and its associated technical support requirements have increased significantly. From a personal perspective I gain great satisfaction knowing that the job I do on a daily basis helps with the nation’s healthcare.
